Further foldable containers were installed for use as commentary booths, media and editing suites, offices and other admin centres. The team also installed 2 temporary kitchen structures, both with vinyl flooring, in collaboration with West Country Marquees. The kitchens were 12x27m and 9x9m in size, both equipped with running water, waste supply and air conditioning. The team completed the whole installation of all the structures within just five days, using only forklifts and jibs.

We’re thrilled to be in collaboration with Hallmarq to deliver an all-time first state-of-the-art modular building, with a standing leg CT scanner for horses, to Valley Equine Hospital in Berkshire.

Hallmarq Logo

With a substantial caseload of thoroughbred horses, Valley Equine Hospital is now poised to revolutionise the early identification of distal limb pathology through the utilisation of this advanced diagnostic tool within a portable building.

The introduction of a standing CT scanner within a portable structure offers numerous advantages over previous methods. CT scanning provides a wealth of information that surpasses the capabilities of radiography. It also reduces radiation exposure to staff. Furthermore, scanning is considerably quicker, enabling prompt diagnosis and treatment planning.

With easy installation, the Cube x Hallmarq modular diagnostic room can be set up in any location and, once installed, is ready for immediate use. The standing equine leg CT offers safe scanning, with an easy entry and exit system, without the need for general anaesthesia. Full ongoing support is also provided from the team at Hallmarq to ensure maximum use of the facility, including staff training.

A Safer Alternative

Valley Equine Hospital, with a substantial caseload of thoroughbred horses, chose the Hallmarq standing CT scanner, due to its ability to scan using just standing sedation. This ensures a safer and more efficient experience for the horses when compared to general anaesthesia. By working closely with Hallmarq’s training team, the veterinary professionals at Valley Equine hospital are actively optimising sedation techniques and patient positioning to achieve the best possible results.

Tom McParland, Valley Equine Hospital’s surgeon, expressed his enthusiasm for the new device, stating: “The installation of the Hallmarq standing CT scanner is a fantastic addition to our hospital. We are confident that this diagnostic modality will significantly enhance our ability to identify not just thoroughbred fetlock pathology earlier but improve our diagnostic abilities of the distal limb for all our equine patients, racing, and leisure alike.”

The portable Hallmarq standing CT scanner unit is set to revolutionise the equine world with many more units set to be installed at veterinary hospitals across the globe.

Earth Day 2023: ‘Invest In Our Planet’

On April 22nd, stakeholders of all backgrounds come together to advance sustainability and climate action in commemoration of Earth Day. First held in 1970, the annual event now includes a wide range of events and initiatives coordinated globally. This year, the Earth Day movement is rallying behind the theme ‘Invest In Our Planet’, which highlights the importance of dedicating our time, resources, and energy to solving climate change and other environmental issues, with a view that investing in our planet is necessary to protect it and the best way to pave a path towards a prosperous future.

Cube is equally committed to protecting the environment, as well as the health and safety of our employees and the global communities in which we operate. Our business takes the necessary measures to carry out its statutory, moral, and social duties to the highest standards, compliant with the current industry best practise.

Cube is constantly improving the environmental impact of its operations and follow these key principles:

  • Actively measuring and monitoring environmental impacts
  • Reducing waste, maximising the reuse, and recycling of materials and managing disposal responsibly
  • Ensuring our use of natural resources (energy, water, products we buy) is sustainable
  • Protecting the environment by seeking to avoid and reduce the pollution of air, water and land that may result as a consequence of our business operations
  • Ensuring that our activities are sensitive to the local community and that we leave areas exactly as they were found or better
  • Developing awareness of environmental context and initiatives to encourage proactive stakeholder engagement
  • Providing suitable environmental training for our staff and continuously promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.

Continest

Cube’s exclusive Continest build system uses foldable technology to reduce transport and logistical costs:

  • Ten buildings can be transported, folded and stacked on a single truck
  • Traditional fixed framed buildings would require five times the number of lorries
  • Continest foldable portable buildings achieve an 80% reduction in transport carbon footprint by reducing the number of trucks required, thereby also reducing our Scope 1 emissions
  • Reduced diesel exhaust fumes reduce carbon, C02, emissions and particulate soot –improving health and wellbeing in the event space and locations the units are installed.

Given the nature of Cube Modular’s business and our ISO20121 Sustainable Event Management Certification, we include:

  • Carbon emission reports for all our event clients and for internal reporting
  • These reports detail the quantity of CO2 emissions produced in transport, and the amount saved compared to transporting fixed framed cabins.

Our business measures its environmental health, safety and sustainability performance against established standards and this performance is reviewed by the Board of Directors and Safety & Sustainability team on a regular basis.

By making sustainability an integral part of our strategy and operations, we aim to achieve long-term returns and generate a positive impact for society and the environment, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the Paris Agreement. We make sustainability an intrinsic part of all our global business relationships and work closely with our suppliers and business partners to achieve long lasting impacts across our entire value chain.

Cube’s New Service Supports Events to Reduce Travel Impacts

Cube has enhanced its service to the company’s event and festival partners by providing, at quotation stage, a summary of the carbon emissions that each project will incur through transportation. A new service aimed to aid discussion over maximising the efficiency of deliveries to ensure that clients can take advantage of carbon emission savings achieved through use of Cube’s sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Ensuring our range of Cube’s Continest buildings, the most ecofriendly solution in the modular building industry, is even more flexible for use as retail, merchandising and box office units as well as security cabins, dressing rooms and admin offices, Cube’s able to provide an entire event infrastructure to venues, taking full advantage of transport, storage and logistics efficiencies.

In addition, Cube provides each of its event and festival clients with a Travel Carbon Emissions Report using our partner, ecolibrium’s, carbon calculator tool. Headline figures show carbon emissions savings of 9,588kg for Boardmasters, 9,975kg for Black Deer, 16,788kg for Tartan Heart, and 11,000kg for On The Beach festivals. For those four festivals alone, 112 trucks were taken off the road because of using Cube’s Continest buildings.

In total over 1,000 units have been delivered to more than 40 festivals, music concerts and sporting events, including Chelsea Flower Show, Glastonbury, Formula E London and Monaco E-Prix and the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Total carbon savings from delivering our collapsible cabins to 15 UK festivals alone have topped 60,000Kg in the summer of 2022.

CASE STUDY – Tartan Heart Festival, Inverness

For the Tartan Heart Festival, Cube used just eight lorries to transport 24, 6m units and12, 3m units in and out of the festival instead of thirty lorries which would have been required to transport the equivalent number of units of traditional fixed framed cabins. The carbon emissions and savings achieved can be summarised as follows: –

Transportation Carbon Emissions

Cube’s NOEA Judges’ Award Rounds-Off A Multi Award-Winning Year

Cube Modular has won a total of five industry awards in 2022, the most recent coming from National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) last month. NOEA presented Cube Modular with the coveted ‘Judges’ Award’, recognising the importance of innovation in the industry going forward. A delighted James Lauchlan, Cube Modular’s Sales Manager, received the trophy at the NOEA awards dinner.

The NOEA award follows four others for Cube Modular, all recognising the creativity of our company in reimagining infrastructure for the events industry and assisting organisers in their goals to reduce event carbon footprint.

Cube’s 5 Prestigious Award Wins

NOEA Judges’ Award

Green Supplier Award: Festival Supplier Award

Best Product Innovation Award: Major Events International

Green Guardians Award: IQ Magazine Class of 2022 Sustainable Suppliers and Innovators

Hire Industry Product of the Year Award: Hire Association Europe Hire Awards of Excellence

The company has exclusive UK and Ireland, as well as global sporting events, distributor rights for Continest unique foldable cabins, the most sustainable temporary portable accommodation solution available to the event and hire industries worldwide. Folded flat and stacked for transport and erected on site in just a few minutes, these innovative units provide robust and flexible temporary infrastructure for any venue, enabling events to reduce their CO2 and GHG emissions by up to 80%, compared to using traditional fixed framed cabins.

Reducing carbon footprint is a key priority for festivals, sporting and other major events, so the demand for more sustainable products from suppliers is on the increase. Travel and transport specifically has consistently been found to make up at least 80% of a typical event’s carbon footprint, with transportation of building infrastructure contributing significantly due to the size of the structures.

Cube Modular’s Managing Director Brandon Weston said “Receiving the prestigious ‘Judges’ Award’ from NOEA was the perfect way to round off a very successful year which has seen Cube become established as a key infrastructure supplier to the festivals and events industry. We’ve also consolidated our relationships with well-established sporting brands.”
