Cube Supports First Pilot Crowd Scheme Event With Hand Sanitiser Stations
The first phase of the pilot crowd scheme, to test Government guidance on crowds returning to sport, was held at The Oval Cricket Ground last weekend. It saw 1,000 spectators watch Surrey play Middlesex and was deemed “a definite success” by Surrey chief executive Richard Gould.
Cube was on hand to support the event with its hand sanitiser stations strategically placed at the ground’s entrance points.
The stand-alone and highly branded units help venues and events mitigate the spread of the virus and have been deployed at sports grounds, businesses, hospitals and retail venues throughout the UK.
Further pilot crowd schemes which were planned for other sporting events have since been cancelled due to the recent coronavirus upsurge.
The final day of the Goodwood racing festival, an event for which Cube also provided hand sanitiser stations, and the Snooker World Championships will no longer be able to welcome spectators. Both events will now take place behind closed doors.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the decision at a press briefing, “I have said our plan to reopen society and the economy is conditional… that we would not hesitate to put the brakes on if required. Our assessment is that we should now squeeze that brake pedal.”
The crowd pilot scheme was set up by the UK Government to allow spectators at a small number of sporting events. A move forward to help venues safely reopen their doors to fans.
Guidelines for the scheme included seating arrangements to allow for social distancing, crowd control measures for entering and exiting venues, additional hygiene facilities and screens and barriers at catering units and betting kiosks, where social distancing was not possible.
Elite sport has been closed to spectators in the UK since March 23 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
